Obituary of Kenneth P. Thompson

THOMPSON , KENNETH P. Age 91 of Horseheads , NY formerly of Waverly , NY passed away on Sunday November 15 , 2015. Kenneth was born April 12 , 1924 in Otsego , NY the son of the late Guy and Georgiana Devine Thompson . He was a Veteran of World War II serving his country with The U.S. Army in The 645th Tank Destroyer Battalion throughout Europe and was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and several other campain service medals . Kenneth was a long-time member and Past Commander of American Legion Post # 492 in Waverly , NY and was also a member of American Legion Post # 154 in Elmira Heights, NY . He just received his 70 th year membership in The American Legion . In addition to his parents , Kenneth was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law Renee Thompson. He was a true American Patriot who believed in his service to his country. Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughter : Paula Thompson of Albany , NY ; son and daughter-in-law : Robert P. & Cheryl Thompson of Oxford , NY ; grandchildren : Shawn Thompson of Albany , NY , Chantel Thomas of Oxford , NY , and Michael Thompson of Clinton , NY ; five great grandchildren ; many nieces , nephews , cousins and many special friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Bethany Courtyards 2nd Floor Auditorium 3005 Watkins Road Horseheads , NY on Saturday November 21 , 2015 from 10 – 11 AM . Mr. Thompson's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours with Deacon Doug Farwell and Chaplain Mary Ann Bernard officiating . Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira , NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Thompson. Arrangement are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY .
