Obituary of Manuel Nazar Panosian

PANOSIAN, MANUEL N. "MANNY" Age 92 of Horseheads, NY formerly of Elmira, NY passed away at home on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Manny was born May 2, 1922 in Elmira, NY. His birth was noted in the Elmira Advertiser with the editorial prediction that "it would not be at all surprising if he was one of Elmira's future business men." Manny is the son of the late Nazar and Sara Momjian Panosian. Manny is also pre-deceased by his brother James Panosian, sister Ruth Panosian, and daughter Sandy White. Mr. Panosian is survived by his loving and devoted wife Lucille T. Arikian Panosian; his children David & Dr. Kim Mitchell Panosian of Elmira, NY, Daniel & Karen Vieselmeyer Panosian of Elmira Heights, NY, Susan & Dean Frisbie of Big Flats, NY, and Ronald & Christine Brimmer Panosian of Elmira, NY.; grandchildren: Jill (Jonathan), Jennifer, Jeffrey, Joseph, Elizabeth (Matthew), Timothy (Janelle), Rachel, Stephen (Rachel), Jessica (Brandon), Brandon (Meghan), Cameron, Eric, Tyler, Connor, Kelley, and Erin; sister-in-law Varsi Panosian of Rochester,NY; brother and sister-in-law Dr. Ed & Betty Panosian of Greenville, SC; brother Stan Panosian of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law John & Judy Arikian of Elmira, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Manny Panosian was a person of faith, family, commerce, and community. He was baptized as a youth in the Chemung River. His commitment continued with fellowship, learning, outreach, and worship activities during a long life as a member and leader of the Southside Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1940. He served as an officer in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-24 navigator. During his career he developed multiple retail, real estate, and broadcasting enterprises including Mr. Panosian's Street of Shops, Langdon Plaza, and WIQT/WQIX Radio. Community service arenas included: Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, Mark Twain Scholars, Salvation Army, Elmira Kiwanis, Twin Tiers Youth For Christ, Southside Merchants Association, Junior Achievement, Elmira Downtown Development, ACTS (Area Christians Together in Service), and several education and college advisory boards. Manny received numerous professional and service awards.The real joys of his life were his faith in God, Lucille (beloved wife of over 60 years), his family, friends, and several dachshunds. The service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 304 North Main Street across the street from Langdon Plaza in downtown Elmira, NY. The Rev. David Daniels will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY.
